About Sarb

If you were reading my blog and wanted to know more before engaging me on a coaching project, or to write for you, or some other project, you’re in the right place.

Here’s the list:

  • I am the Director of Equanimity Limited and sole author of the Complete Coach blog
  • I am a UK-trained Clinical Psychologist and Health Psychologist
  • I am a Registered Psychologist in New Zealand and hold a Clinical Scope Of Practice
  • I am a member of the New Zealand Psychological Society
  • I am also an Associate Fellow of the British Psychological Society, and member of the Divisions of Clinical Psychology, Health Psychology, and the Special Group in Coaching Psychology
  • I hold two doctoral level degrees in psychology from the University of Cardiff in Wales (PhD), and the University of London – University College London (DClinPsy)
  • I have extensive experience in teaching, research, senior policy advisor, and clinical practitioner capacities in University, Health Care and Government settings in the UK, NZ and Japan
  • In total, I have over 20 years experience working as a psychologist in various realms.

Over the past 5 years, I have managed projects for the NZ Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Youth Development. More recently, I worked as a Private Secretary for the Minister of State for Health in the UK Government. On my return to New Zealand in 2011, I accepted a position at Massey University’s Joint Centre for Disaster Research, as an Associate Professor in Disaster Mental Health. This is what takes up most of my time now, and I advise the Ministry of Social Development and CERA on aspects of recovery from the Canterbury earthquakes.

I am an experienced runner, and completed numerous half-marathons, 4 international marathons and 1 ultra-marathon from 2010-2012. I am a certified Leader in Running Fitness, and I am also training to be a Personal Trainer. My most testing experience was training for my first marathon, and then running a marathon on my own three weeks  before the Berlin marathon in 2010 – just to see if I could do it. I did, and I learned a lot about mindfulness during that whole training cycle. I hope I can share some of those insights with you – either on this site, or through a coaching conversation.

I am active online, and tweet regularly as @sarb. You can follow me there – I usually follow back. Get in contact – I’d like to hear from you.
